What is the definition of an Emergency? | A hazard impact causing adverse physical, social, psychological, economic or political effects that challenges the ability to respond rapidly and effectively. |
What is an Emergency Preparedness Plan? | A facility’s comprehensive approach to meeting the health, safety & security needs of the facility, its staff, their patient population & community prior to, during & after an emergency or disaster. |

What is the purpose of the 1135 Waiver? | Ensure sufficient health care items & services are available to meet needs of Medicare, Medicaid & CHIP beneficiaries. Providers who provide services can't comply with certain requirements in good faith can be reimbursed, absent any fraud or abuse. |
How long are these waivers good for? | They end no later than termination of the emergency period, or 60 days from date waiver was first published unless the Secretary extends waiver for another 60 days or end of emergency. |
