CH. 29

Light Cured Gels CH.29 flashcards

Term
An oligomer is a short chain of monomer liquids that is often thick, sticky, and gel-like and is not long enough to be considered a polymer.
The nine-watt is the most common UV bulb on the market.
Light cured gels are usually packaged in opaque pots or squeeze tubes.
The tacky surface left on the nail after a UV or LED gel has cured is called the inhibition layer.
A medium or fine abrasive is recommended to refine the surface contour for UV or LED gel nails.
Viscosity is the measurement of the thickness of a liquid and how the fluid flows.
Bonding gel is used to increase adhesion of UV or LED gels to the natural nail plate.
Introducing air into the gel as you apply it to the fingernail will reduce the strength of the cured gel.
Building gel is a thick-viscosity resin that allows the cosmetologist to build an arch and curve into the fingernail.
A chemical called a photoinitiator initiates the polymerization reaction.
When gel polish is finished curing, a gloss gel can be applied over it to create a high, lustrous shine.
Hard UV and LED gels cannot be removes with a solvent.
Soft UV and LED gel is known as a soakable gel.
Light cured gels can be easy to maintain.
A very thin-viscosity gel that is used as an alternative to traditional nail lacquers is a gel polish.
If a light unit has four bulbs in it, and each bulb is 9-watts. then the lamp is called a 36-watt lamp.
Different bulbs produce greatly differing amounts of UV and LED light. This is referred to as the UV and LED bulb intensity or concentration.
After the nail plate is properly prepared for a light cured gel application, each layer of product is applied to the natural nail, nail tip, or form and required exposure to a UV or LED light source to cure or harden.
Gel polish does not dry the same as lacquers.
The amount of colored pigment concentration in a gel is called opacity.
A nail dehydrator removes surface moisture and tiny amounts of oil left on the natural plate.
If a client has flat fingernails, building gel is recommended.
During a gel procedure, keep the brush and open gel containers away from the sunlight, gel lamps, and full-spectrum table lamps.
Most LED lamps cure gel about four times faster than UV lamps. LED represents Light Emitting Diodes.
