What is the spinal cord? Made of neurons and axons that carry information to and from the brain.
What is the cerebellum? Processes sensory information + balance.
What is the medulla? Controls involuntary processes.
What does the peripheral nervous system contain? Everything in the nervous system besides the brain and spinal cord.
What does the central nervous system contain? The brain and spinal cord.
What is the cerebrum? Allows you to think + controls voluntary processes. Memory, reasoning, and personality.
What part of the brain has two hemispheres? The cerebrum.
What does the right side of the body control? The left side.
The types of neurons: Sensory, moter, and interneuron.
The stages of a reflex arc: Reception--transmission--interpretation--transmission--response
Main parts of a neuron: Axon, cell body, and dendrites.
How does an impulse change into a chemical message? It goes through the synapse.
What controls CNS and hormones? Thyroid glands.
What helps your body respond to danger? Adrenal glands.
What produces hormones needed for reproduction in males? Testes.
What secretes hormones that affect other glands and organs? Pituitary glands.
What produces hormones needed for reproduction in females? Ovaries.
What regulates blood-glucose levels? The pancreas.
What regulates the immune system? The thymus.
What regulates calcium levels in blood? Parathyroid glands.
What is the removal processes of wastes from the body? Excretion.
What is the main organ of the urinary system? The kidneys.
What is the main unit in the kidney that filters blood? Nephrons.
What is the liquid created by the filtration of blood through the kidneys? Urine.
What is a chemical that comes from the breakdown of proteins? Urea.
What are the wastes our body excretes besides urine? Urea, uric acid, creatine, ammonia, and excess salts.
What are other organs involved in the excretory system? The lungs, skin, and liver.
