voluntary muscles Striated muscles
striated Muscles with a ribbed appearance that are controlled at will.
involuntary muscles Muscles not movable at will.
smooth muscles Fibrous muscle of internal organs that acts involuntarily.
visceral muscles Smooth muscles
cardiac muscle Striated involuntary muscle of the heart.
fascia (pl., fasciae Sheet of fibrous tissue that encloses muscles.
Flexion the bending of the limb
Extension the straightening of the limb
Rotation the circular movement of part
Abduction movement away from the body
Adduction movement toward the body
Supination a turning up
Pronatin a turning down
Eversion moving sole of foot outward
Inversion moving sole of foot inward
Dorsiflexion bending up (as of the ankle)
Plantar flexion bending down (as of the ankle)
ankylosis Stiffening of a joint, especially as a result of disease
arthrogram An x-ray of a joint
craniotomy Incision into the skull
brachiocephalic Related to both the arm and the head.
bursitis Inflammation of a bursa
cervicodynia Neck pain.
chondroplasty Surgical repair of cartilage
fibroma Benign tumor in fibrous tissue
humeroscapular Relates to both the humerus and scapula
iliofemoral Relating to the ilium and femur.
ischiodynia Pain in the ischium
maxillofacial Pertains to the jaws and face
metacarpectomy Excision of a metacarpal
myelocyst Cyst that develops in bone marrow.
osteoarthritis Arthritis with loss of cartilage.
patellectomy Excision of the patella.
sternodynia Sternum pain.
synovitis Inflammation of a synovial joint.
vertebroarterial Relates to a vertebra and an artery or to a vertebral artery.
