Cognitive Psychology This continues the exploration of how we perceive process and remember information and how thinking impacts other disorders
Cognitive Neuroscience The combination of science of the mind and science of the brain
Psychology its contribution was the science of behavior and mental processes
Wilhelm Wundt He was a philosopher and a physiologist
Williams James Was an American philosopher
Ivan Pavlov his contribution was pioneering the study of learning
Jean Piaget He contributed many things as one of the most influential observers of children
The nature-Nurture Issue This was, created by Socrates and Plato, debate that we inherit character and intelligence and that certain ideas are also there before we are born. Aristotle argued that nothing in the mind came before our external world experiences
John Locke He rekindled the debate to say that the mind is a blank slate on which experience writes
Rene Decartes He disagreed with Locke and stated that some ideas are innate
Charles Darwin and Natural Selection During his round the world trip he explained that the environment goes through a process of natural selection to best enable an organism's survival
Evolutionary Psychology The study of the evolution of behavior and the mind using principles of natural selection
Behavior genetics The study of relative power and limits of genetic and environmental influences on behavior
Culture Shared ideas and natures that on generation passes onto the next
Positive Psychology This is the study of human flourishing
Biopsychosocial Approach This offers a more complete picture of any given behavior or mental process
Biological psychology The study of the links between biological and psychological processes
Behavioral psychology This is the scientific study of observable behavior
Humanistic psychology It emphasized human growth potential
Social-culture psychology the study of how situations and cultures affect our behavior
Psychodynamic psychology This is where the behavior springs from unconscious drives and conflicts
Testing effect this is a way of retrieving information to memory rather than simply rereading it
SQ3R A study method with 5 steps: Survey, Question, Read, Retrieve, Review
Spaced Practice to study for a certain period instead of cramming at the last minute
Massed Practice Cramming all your studying at one time
Over learn This improves retention by overstimulating how much we know
