Vocab-Ancient Greece

abstract: Pure and simple, not complicated.
Asia Minor: another name for the Anatolian Peninsula, where much of present day Turkey is located. Another area filled with Greek city-states
city-state: an independent town or city that governs itself and the land around it.
epic poem: a long poem that tells the story of the adventures of one or more legendary heroes.
ethics: the branch of philosophy from Socrates that studies what it means to live a good, moral life.
ostracize: in ancient Athens, to banish or send away.
plague: a disease that sweeps through a town or country, causing many to die.
philosopher: a person who seeks wisdom or enlightenment; a scholar, a thinker.
philosophy: a pursuit of wisdom; an analysis of the grounds of and concepts expressing fundamental beliefs.
rhetoric: the art of using language, especially to persuade others. Often used in the Assembly in Ancient Athens when debating law or judgment.
trilogy: a group of three related dramatic or literary works
truce: An agreement where two or more people agree to stop fighting.
virtue: Goodness or moral excellence; belief established and taught by Plato, that people can choose goodness, to act for the good of others and to be less selfish.
