Iron deficiency anemia anemia resulting from decreased hemoglobin production caused by lack of dietary iron
Aplastic anemia (aplasia=absence of tissue) anemia from the number of functioning stem cell in bone marrow decreasing, results from, drugs, chemicals, radiation, cancer
Pernicious anemia anemia resulting from deficiency or malabsorption of vitamin B12
Leukemia immature and ineffective white blood cells are produced
Hemophilia inability to form blood clot because of deficiency of blood-clotting factors
Shock inadequate delivery of oxygenated blood to the tissues
Hypovolemic shock shock caused by decrease in blood volume
Cardiogenic shock shock caused by inadequate pumping action of the heart
Septic shock shock caused by bacterial infection
Anaphylactic shock shock cause by systemic release of a large amount of histamine during an allergic response
Arrhythmia an abnormal or irregular heartbeat
Pericarditis inflammation of the pericardium
Phlebitis inflammation of a vein
Hemorrhoids characterized by varicose veins of the rectum and anus
Coarctation of the aorta (coarctation=narrowing) localized narrowing of the aorta, impedes blood flow
Aneurysm a localized bulge in the wall of an artery
Murmur sound heard when blood escapes through a heart valve
Myocardial infarction sudden insufficient blood supply to part of the heart muscle
Angina pectoris pain in the chest & arm that may be described as dull, sharp, burning, aching
Heart block block in the electrical conduction pathway of the heart, results in uncoordinated contractions of atria & ventricles
Varicose vein a vein that swells with accumulating blood
Arteriosclerosis group of conditions characterized by thickening an hardening of the arteries.
Atherosclerosis hardening & thickening of arteries resulting from buildup of plaque made of cholesterol and lipids
Raynaud disease characterized by peripheral vasoconstriction, most common in digits, extreme cold, numbness, pain
