Classical Conditioning

classical conditioning a procedure in which a neural stimulus is repeatedly paired with a stimulus that already triggers a reflex-like response until the neural stimulus alone comes to evoke a similar response
unconditioned response (UCR) the automatic or unlearned reaction to a stimulus
UCRex salivation
conditioned stimulus (CS) the orginally neural stimulus that, through pairing with the unconditioned stimulus, coes to elicit a conditioned response
CS ex tone
contioned response (CR) the response that the conditioned response
CR ex salivaition 2
extinction the gradual disappearance of a conditioned response when a condtioned stimulus no longer predicits the appearance of the unconditioned stimulus
spontaneous recovery the reappearance of the condtioned response after extintion and without futher pairings of the conditioned and unconditioned stimuli
spontaneous recovery 2 even after they have been extinguous
stimulus generalization a phenomenon in which a condtioned response is elicited by stimuli that are similar but not identical to the conditioned stimulus
stimulus discrimination a process through which individuals learn to differentiate among similar stimuli and respond approaitely to each other
