ridge on posterior scapula; skeletal muscle above is supraspinatus; skeletal muscle below is infraspinatus
Shoulder/Pectoral Girdle
part of appendicular skeleton that attaches to upper limbs to trunk; each consists of clavicle and scapula
Acromion
lateral projection on scapula; forms tip of shoulder, articulates with acromial end of clavicle
Coracoid process
projection to which one fo the tendons of the biceps brachii attaches
Scapula (shoulder blade)
has acromion, spine, coracoid process, glenoid cavity/fossa
Clavicle (collarbone)
sternal end articulates medially w/ sternum’s manubrium; acromial end articulates laterally w/ scapula’s acromion; acts as brace to hold shoulder in lateral position. If broken, shoulder caves medially
Glenoid cavity/fossa
very shallow socket w/ which head of humerus articulates forming essence of shoulder joint. b/c of shallowness and flexible ligaments, shoulder joint very mobile but prone to dislocation.
Spine (of scapula)
ridge on posterior scapula; skeletal muscle above is supraspinatus; skeletal muscle below is infraspinatus
Shoulder/Pectoral Girdle
part of appendicular skeleton that attaches to upper limbs to trunk; each consists of clavicle and scapula
Acromion
lateral projection on scapula; forms tip of shoulder, articulates with acromial end of clavicle
