Shoulder/Pectoral Girdle   part of appendicular skeleton that attaches to upper limbs to trunk; each consists of clavicle and scapula

Clavicle (collarbone)   sternal end articulates medially w/ sternum’s manubrium; acromial end articulates laterally w/ scapula’s acromion; acts as brace to hold shoulder in lateral position. If broken, shoulder caves medially

Scapula (shoulder blade)   has acromion, spine, coracoid process, glenoid cavity/fossa

Acromion   lateral projection on scapula; forms tip of shoulder, articulates with acromial end of clavicle

Spine (of scapula)   ridge on posterior scapula; skeletal muscle above is supraspinatus; skeletal muscle below is infraspinatus

Coracoid process   projection to which one fo the tendons of the biceps brachii attaches

Glenoid cavity/fossa   very shallow socket w/ which head of humerus articulates forming essence of shoulder joint. b/c of shallowness and flexible ligaments, shoulder joint very mobile but prone to dislocation.
