TermDefinition
Abduction Movement away from longitudinal body, swinging upper limb away from the side
Adduction Moving the arm back to side of body
Flexion Reduces angle between articulating elements.. flexion at the wrist moves palm forward
Extension Increases the angle between articulating elements...moving leg back posteriorly
Hyperextension Where a limb is extended beyond its normal limits
Medial Rotation Anterior aspect of the limb rotates inward
Lateral Rotation Turns outwards
Supnation Palm facing front
Pronation Palm facing back
Eversion Twisting motion of the foot that turns the sole outward
Inversion Turns sole inward
Dorsiflexion Elevates the distal portion of the foot...digging in the heels
Plantar flexion Tiptoe
Lateral flexion Vertebral column bends to the side
Protraction Moving part of the body anteriorly in the horizontal plane..grasp your upper lip with lower teeth
Retraction Reverse of protraction..moving jaw bones backwards
Opposition Movement of the thumb that produces pad to pad contact of the thumb with the palm/other fingers
Elevation Structure moves superiorly
Depression Inferior direction...depress mandible when you open your mouth
