TermDefinition
Hypertrophy An increase in the size of an organ or tissue due to an INCREASE in the SIZE of cells
Hyperplasia An increase in the size of an organ or tissue cause by an INCREASE in the number of cells
Aplasia Failure of cell production
Hypoplasia Decrease in cell production that is less extreme than in aplasia
Atrophy Decrease in the size of an organ or tissue and results from a DECREASE in the MASS OF PREEXISTING CELLS
Metaplasia replacement of one differentiated tissue by another
