Abdominal Regions & Quadrants
Term | Definition |

Right Hypochondriac region | Upper right on subject. Includes right half of liver, 3/4 bottom right ribs. |
Epigastric region | Upper middle on subject. Includes middle of liver, lower right of stomach, bottom of sternum. |
Left Hypochondriac region | Upper left on subject. Includes upper left of stomach, small top left portion of liver, 3/4 bottom left ribs. |
Right Lumbar region | right-Abdominal region. Includes part of small and large intestine, bottom of right rib, upper right pelvis. |
Umbilical region | Mid-Abdominal region. Includes mid-section of large and small intestine, area of navel. |
Left Lumbar region | left-Abdominal region. Includes part of small and large intestine, bottom of left rib, upper left pelvis. |
Right Iliac (inguinal) region | Lower right on subject. Includes majority of right section of pelvis, top of right hip, small portion of small intestine. |
Hypogastric region | Lower-Abdominal region. Includes lower portion of large intestine, bladder, pelvis. |
Left Iliac (inguinal) region | Lower left on subject. Includes majority of left section of pelvis, top of left hip, small portion of large intestine. |
Right upper quadrant (RUQ) | part of Right hypochondriac region, epigastric, Right lumbar region. |
Left upper quadrant (LUQ) | part of Left hypochondriac region, epigastric, Left lumbar region. |
Right lower quadrant (RLQ) | part of Right lumbar region, Umbilical, Right Iliac (inguinal) region, Hypogastric region. |
Left lower quadrant (LLQ) | part of Left lumbar region, Umbilical, Left Iliac (inguinal) region, Hypogastric region. |
