Palpation and Surface Anatomy of Bony Landmarks

What is palpation? | An art form that develops over time. Involves the use of hands and fingertips to locate and investigate areas of the body |
How should a therapist look after their hands? | Hands should be clean, smooth and soft, and in good physical condition, nails are kept short, all wrist jewellery should be removed |
Describe the shape of the scapula as well as where it is located | A triangular shaped bone, forms the lateral and posterior aspect of the shoulder girdle |
Where is the supraspinous fossa located? | Above the spine of the scapula, on the posterior surface of the scapula |
Where is the infraspinous fossa located? | Below the spine of the scapula, on the posterior surface of the scapula |
Where is the subscapular fossa located? | On the anterior surface of the scaula |
