What are the 2 pumps that the heart is divided into called and what is there function? 1. Left side (systemic pump) - pumps oxygenated blood throughout body2. Right Side (Pulmonary pump) - pumps deoxygenated blood to lungs
What is the location of the heart? Anchored on the midline within the mediastinum
What is the membrane surrounding the heart? Pericardium
What is the outer layer of the pericardium called, what does it consist of, and what is its function? Fibrous pericardium; tough inelastic dense irregular C.T.; anchors heart, protects, prevents overextension of heart
What is the inner layer of the pericardium, its 2 components, and the cavity it contains? Serous pericardium; thin delicate double membrane (parietal pericardium - fused to fibrous pericardium) (visceral pericardium - "Epicardium" outer layer of heart); Pericardial cavity - fluid filled space between parietal and visceral pericardium
