Fiction Vocabulary
Term | Definition |

climax | When the main problem reaches its peak or turning point. |
rising action | The important complications that move the plot along. |
falling action | The events that take place AFTER the climax and lead to the resolution. |
exposition | When the main characters, setting and details are introduced. |
resolution | The main conflict is resolved or when the story ends. |
theme | The lesson the main character learned that we can all relate to. |
protagonist | Usually the main character in the story. |
antagonist | The character that keeps the main character from achieving a goal. |
point of view | The person telling the story. |
author's purpose | Writing to persuade, inform/describe or entertain. |
conflict | Can involve self, other characters, nature and/or society. |
plot | The parts of a fiction story. |
