what is secreation of product out of the area?IE: acid in GI or Sweat exocrine ( exiting area)
chemistry of Hormones 2 types: non- steroids & steroids
What are Chemical messengers Hormones
What are Amino Acid compounds called? Non -Steroids Hormones
what are lipid based hormone derived from cholesterol (dosn't disoves in lipids) called? Steroids Hormones
Non- Steroids1. Amines derives from amino acid tyrosine-epinephrine & norepinephrine ( adrenaline and noradrenaline)
Non- Steroids2. Protein composed of long chains of amino acidsparathyroid hormone, Growth Hormone and Prolactin
Non- Steroids 3. Glycoproteins proteins joined to carbohydrates, FSH follicle stimulation hormoneLH luteinizing HormoneTSH thyroid stimulation Hormone
Non- Steroids4. Peptide Short chains of amino acidsADH Antidiuretic HormoneOT Oxytocin HormoneTRH Thyrotropin Releasing HormoneSS SomatostatinGnRH Gonadotropin Releasing
Non- Steroids5. Prostaglandins Fatty acids produced in a wide variety of cells
Steroids Lipid base derived fron cholesterol ( dissolves in lipids)
Steroids has 2 hormones what are they? 1. Sex Hormones 2. Adrenal cortex secretions
What are the 2 Sex Hormones Called? 1. Testosterone2. Estrogen
What are the two Adrenal Cortex Secretion called? 1.Aldosterone 2. Cortisol
What are Target Cells? cells that the hormone will be acting upon
What hormone does the Pineal secreat? Melatonin
what Action does the Pineal Gland have? its your Sleep & Wake cycleLight & dark cycles
Hypothalamus gland Tropic Hormones that regulate other Hormones
Pituitary Gland Posterior Lobe 2 Hormones 1. Oxytocin2. Antidiuretic
Oxytocin creates what type of Action? Uterine contraction & milk let down
What type of Action does the antidiuretic Hormone produce? Water retention
Thyroid Gland has what 2 Harmones? 1. Thyroxine ( T4)2. Triiiodothyroxine (T3)2.Calcitonin
What action does T3 & T4 produce and regulate? stimulates Metabolisimand regulates TSH
Parathyroid gland Parathyroid hormone( PTH)
What type of Action does the Parathyroid hormone cause? Raises blood Calcium levels
What type of Action from the calcitonin hormone produce? Decreases the Blood Calcium levels
what type of Hormone does the Thymus gland have? Thymosin Hormone
what are the 2 adenal Glands called? 1. Adrenal Medulla2. Adrenal cortex
the Adrenal Medulla has 4 Homones called what? 1. Epinephrine2. Norepinephrine3. Adrenaline4. Noradrenalinethe Flight or fight response
What type of action does the Adrenal Medula gland produce? Raises blood glucose increases rate of medtabolism constrict certain blood vessels
what are the names of the three hormones from the Adrenal Cortex? 1.Glucocorticoids also known as Cortisol2. Mineralocaorticoids also know as Aldosterones3. Sex Hormones also know as adrenal androgens
What happens with the cortisol hormone? 1. aids in metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats2. active during stress by increasing the levels of nutrients in the blood3. supresses the inflamatory response
Aldosterone or mieralocorticoid its action aids in regulating K & Na and water balancepromotes reabsorbtion of sodium and potasium in kidneys
what's the Action in the adrenal androgens hormone? progestrons and estrogen
Pancreatic islets has 3 hormones: 1.Insulin 2. Glucagon 3. Somatostatin
what type of cell does Insulin have? beta cell
what type of cell does the glucagon have? alpha cell
what type of cell does the somatostatin have? Delta cell
what happens to glucose when insulin is introduced to the body? Reduces blood glucose
what happens to glucose when Glucagon is in the blood? raises the blood glucose stimulated by liver
what does the Somatostatin hormone do in the blood? Inhibits secretions of Glucagons and insulin in blood.
Anterior Pituitary Lobe has 6 hormones 1. GH Growth Hormone2. PRL Prolactin ( stimulates milk production)3. FSH follicle stmulating Hormone4. LH Luteninizing Hormone 5. TSH Thyroid stimulating hormone6. ACTH AdrenoCorticoTropic Hormone
