Atomic mass Number of protons + number of neutrons in the nucleus
Catabolism Chemical reaction breaking down larger food molecules into smaller chemical units
Dehydration synthesis Joining together of smaller units to form larger molecules
Proximal Nearer to the trunk of the body
Distal Furthest from the trunk
Ipsilateral Same side of the body
Contralateral Opposite side of the body
Pleural cavities Spaces on the right and left side of the mediastinum where the lungs reside
Integral membrane proteins Proteins integrated into the structure of the membrane itself.
Receptors React to the presence of hormones outside the cell
Epithelial tissue Protects the body surface, lines body cavities and forms many glands. Moves substances into and out of the body
Keloid Atypical and unusually thick scar
Visceral membrane Covers the surface of the viscera (organs in the cavity)
Cartilage Thin, fibrous connective tissue found in the ear, larynx, respiratory tract and articulation surface of joints
Bone Highly rigid connective tissue which comprise blood vessels and cells
