Respiratory tract

What are alveoli Sacs that serve as gas exchangers
Upper respiratory tract Organs outside the thorax- Nose, nasopharynx, oropharynx, laryngopharynx, and larynx
Lower respiratory tract Organs within the thorax-trachea, bronchial tree, and lungs
Structure of the lungs Cone shaped organs extending from the diaphragm to above the clavicles
Hilum Slit on the lungs medial surface where the primary bronchi and pulmonary blood vessels enter
Base of the lungs Inferior portion of the lungs that sit on the diaphragm
Costal surface of the lungs Lies against the ribs
Left lung is divided into: 2 sections- Superior and inferior
Right lung is divided into: 3 sections - Superior, middle, and inferior
Functions of the lungs Air distribution and gas exchange
