What are the muscles that compress the abdominal contents? Rectus abdominis, external oblique muscles, internal oblique muscles, and transverse abdominis
Identify the two efferent divisions in the ANS. The sympathetic nervous system and parasympathetic nervous system
Define the nervous system A collection of nerves and neurons that transmit signals between different parts of the body.
What is meninges? The three protective layers of tissue tha surrond the brain and spinal cord.
What is calcitonin? A hormone produced in the thyroid gland that inhibits osteoclast activity in children.
What is the pulse pressure? The difference between the systolic and diastolic blood pressure readings. A measure of the force exerted by the heart with each heartbeat.
Define the pericardium. A double-layered, loose-fitting, inextensible sac surrounding and protecting the heart.
What is lymph? A clear fluid circulating throughout the lympatic system that carries white blood cells and waste products away from the tissues and towards the bloodstream.
What is epiglottis? A small leaf-shaped cartilage located at the base of the tongue that prevents food and liquid from entering the windpipe during swallowing.
What is laryngitis? An inflammation of the larynx, which is the voice box located in the throat. It can result in hoarseness or loss of voice due to irritation or infection of the vocal cords.
