What are the main functions of the integumentary system? retain fluids and protect internal structures
What does the integumentary system consist of? skin, breasts, sweat glands, and nails
What are the main functions of the skeletal system? gives body structure and allows movement through fulcrum patterns
What does the skeletal system consist of? bones, cartilages, ligaments, and bone marrow
What are the main functions of the muscular system? provide movement and generate heat when contracted
What does the muscular system consist of? muscles and tendons
What are thee main functions of the nervous system? respond to sensory stimuli and control muscles and some glands
What does the nervous system consist of? brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and sense organs
What are the main functions of the endocrine system? secrete hormones into blood
What does the endocrine system consist of? pituitary gland, thyroid gland, pancreas, adrenal glands, gonads and their hormones
What are the main functions of the cardiovascular system? pump blood through the body in order to distribute oxygen, CO2, nutrients, and electrolytes throughout entire body
What does the cardiovascular system consist of? heart, blood, blood vessels, and capillary beds
What are the main functions of the respiratory system? pump air in and out and exchange oxygen and CO2
What does the respiratory system consist of? nasal cavities, sinuses, larynx, trachea, bronchioles, and lungs
What are the main functions of the lymphatic system? drain any fluid from between cells and inspection
What does the lymphatic system consist of? spleen, thymus, lymph nodes, and tonsils
What is the function of the lymphatic capillaries? collect fluid from between cells
What purpose does the interstitial space in the lymphatic system serve? keep a slight vacuum between cells so material always flows.
What is lymph? lymphatic fluid collected and carefully inspected in nodes, spleen, thymus and by immune cells called lymphocytes
What are the main functions of the digestive system? digest food, absorb nutrients, and expel waste products
What does the digestive system consist of? teeth, tongue, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas
What are the main functions of the urinary system? filters blood to remove waste products and concentrate waste products in the form of urine
What does the urinary system consist of? kidneys, urethra, bladder, and ureters
What are the main functions of the male reproductive system? produce sex cells and hormones, and transfer sperm to female
What does the male reproductive system consist of? testes, prostate gland, penis, scrotum, epididymis, ductus deferens, seminal vesicles
What are the main functions of the female reproductive system? reproduce a human
What does the female reproductive system consist of? ovaries, uterine tubes, uterus, vagina, labia, clitoris, mammary glands
