High fowler's supine, bed is raised 60 to 90 degrees
Lateral side-lying, legs only slightly bent, "hugging pillow"
Sims left side-lying, right arm and leg forward, left arm and leg back
Lithotomy supine; hips, knees, and thighs abducted and rotated externally
Trendelenburg supine, head low, feet elevated
Reverse trendelenburg supine, head elevated, feet low
Modified trendelenburg head level with body, feet elevated
What is supine used for? sleeping, head-to-toe measurement, c-sections
Where should pillows be placed in supine position? under head, elbows, heels, and soles of feet to avoid FOOT DROP (can use a footboard, foam, or high-top sneakers)
What is prone used for? spinal surgery and some respiratory issues (covid-19)
Where should pillows be placed in prone position? head, elbow, shoulders, hips, knees, toes
What is dorsal recumbent used for? peri-care, foley catheter insertion on female
Where should pillows be placed in dorsal recumbent position? head, elbows, heels, soles of feet, knees
What is low and semi fowler's used for? sleeping, post-op on neck, and GI enteral feedings, receiving oxygeb
What is fowler's and high fowler's used for? eating, drinking, and help with breathing
Where should pillows be for ALL fowlers positions? under head or knees
What is lateral used for? seizures, surgery of hip or kidney, keeping the airway open
Where should pillows be placed in lateral position? head, forearm, in between knees and ankles
What is sims used for? foley catheter insertion on female, ENEMA, sleeping
Where should pillows be placed in sims position? head, forearm, knees and ankles
What is lithotomy used for? childbirth and vaginal exams
Where should pillows be placed in lithotomy position? head and lumber (back)
