Consists of Pulmonary cavities Mediastinum Endothoracic fascia |
Pleurae Encloses each lung has two layers - parietal, visceral Visceral Is adherent to the lungs surface and fissures of the lungs. Parietal Is adherent to to pulmonary cavities, wall, mediastinum and diaphragm. |
Pleural sleeve Covers the root of the lung. Continuation of visceral and parietal layers. |
Pulmonary ligament inferior to the root of the lung. extends btwn lung to mediastinum |
Pleural cavity Potential space btwn parietal and visceral layers Contains plueral fluid for lubrication. |
Components of parietal pleura Costal part- covers internal surfaces of thoracic wall separated from wall by endthoracic fascia . 2.Mediastinal part Covers the lateral aspects of the mediastinum. |
Diaphragmatic part Cover superior surface of diaphragm on each side of mediastinum. Cervical part. Extend thru superior thoracic aperture to root of neck . |
Recesses Costodiaphragmatic recesses Costomediastinal recesses |
1. surround covexity of diaphragm inside the thoracic wall 2. posterior to sternum where costal pleura is in contact with mediastinal pleura. |
