Consists of Pulmonary cavities Mediastinum Endothoracic fascia
Pleurae Encloses each lung has two layers - parietal, visceral Visceral Is adherent to the lungs surface and fissures of the lungs. Parietal Is adherent to to pulmonary cavities, wall, mediastinum and diaphragm.
Pleural sleeve Covers the root of the lung. Continuation of visceral and parietal layers.
Pulmonary ligament inferior to the root of the lung. extends btwn lung to mediastinum
Pleural cavity Potential space btwn parietal and visceral layers Contains plueral fluid for lubrication.
Components of parietal pleura Costal part- covers internal surfaces of thoracic wall separated from wall by endthoracic fascia . 2.Mediastinal part Covers the lateral aspects of the mediastinum.
Diaphragmatic part Cover superior surface of diaphragm on each side of mediastinum. Cervical part. Extend thru superior thoracic aperture to root of neck .
Recesses Costodiaphragmatic recesses Costomediastinal recesses
1. surround covexity of diaphragm inside the thoracic wall 2. posterior to sternum where costal pleura is in contact with mediastinal pleura.
