Lymphatic System - Orange Notes
Term | Definition |

Lymph Nodes | only organ to clean lymph |
Lymph (fluid) | fluid in body that contains WBCs and lymphocytes |
Thymus | located below sternum, shrinks with age, looks like H shape, allows body to reject foreign pathogens, produces immune cells |
Spleen | between stomach and left kidney, filters abnormal blood cells, initiates immune response of T & B cells |
Tonsil & Adenoids | small tissue around pharynx, traps and removes pathogens that enter mouth/nose -adenoids shrink over time, tonsil near throat and adenoids near nose |
Appendix | located in intestinal wall, stops pathogens entering in intestinal tract |
Lymphocytes | type of WBC in the lymphatic system |
Thoracic Duct | collects lymph from majority of body, everything below diaphragm and left side above diaphragm. returns fluid to jugular/left subclavian vein |
Right Lymphatic Duct | collects lymph from right side of body above diaphragm. returns fluid to right subclavian vein |
