What are the 4 main tissue types and their functions? Epithelial- Covers and protects body surfaces. Connective- Binds, protects and serves as the framework. Muscle- Contracts producing body movement. Nervous- sends electrical impulses regulating body functions.

What type of melanin is red/yellow? What type of melanin is dark brown/black? Pheomelanin; eumelanin.
What are the characteristics of a long bone? Epiphysis: tips of bone (distal, proximal), Articular cartilage: hyaline cartilage on tips of bones, Diaphysis: shaft
What do membranes usually produce? Fluid to reduce friction.
What are the 2 tissues that membranes are located in? Connective, nervous, muscle and epithelial tissue.
What type of joint is slight immovable? Amphiarthroses
What type of joint is immovable? Synarthroses
What type of joint is freely movable? Diarthroses
What ribs attach to the sternum? True ribs

What do sebaceous glands produce? Where are they found? Sebum (oil). They are found in the hair follicles.
What is the function of the skeletal system? Support, protects, movement and anchorage, mineral storage and hematopoiesis (generation of red blood cells “bone marrow”)
