What are the two types of glands? Exocrine & Endocrine
What is exocrine? releases through a gland or duct
What is endocrine? releases through the bloodstream
Define hormones: Alter metabolic process. Bind to receptors.
What is up-regulation? increase in numbers of receptors in target cells which causes a decrease in hormone level
What is down-regulation? Decrease in numbers of receptors in target cells which causes an increase in hormone level
What is stress? produced in response to a stressor
What is stressors? initiating the stress response.
Give some examples of stressors: Psychological, physical, stress
What is nervous message? faster response
What is endocrine message? slower response
List 9 major endocrine glands. Hypothalamus, Pituitary, Thyroid, Parathyroid, Adrenal, Pancreas, Pineal, Thymus, Gonads
Alarm stage fight or flight response
Resistance stage long-term
