Question | Answer |
---|---|
Condyle | a rounded process of bone which serves as a point of articulation with another bone (typically interacts with a fossa) |
Crest | a narrow ridge of bone; typically serves as an anchorage for ligaments and tendons |
Epicondyle | a rough process immediately adjacent to a condyle; typically serves as an anchorage for ligaments and tendons |
Facet | a smooth and flattened surface of bone used to form articulations with other bones |
Fissure | a narrow opening or slit between two bones or other structures; important fissures are found both in the skeletal and nervous system |
foramen | a hole in a bone |
fossa | indentation or depression in the surface of a bone; typically serves as a point of articulation between two bones or as an attachment surface for tendons |
gyrus | a ridge or fold adjacent to a groove; used frequently in the nervous system as a companion to the term sulcus |
head | a large articular process found on the proximal end of the bone |
ligament | a band of dense collagenous connective tissue that anchors one bone to another |
line | an especially narrow ridge of bone; typically serves as an anchorage for ligaments and tendons |
meatus | the opening to a tube; (not the tube itself) |
process | any extension of bone; typically serves as an anchorage for ligaments and tendons |
sulcus | a groove or valley between two ridges; used frequently in the nervous system as a companion to the term gyrus |
tendon | a band of dense collagenous connective tissue that anchors a skeletal muscle to bone |
trochanter | a large process process of bone; typically serves as an anchorage for ligaments and tendons |
tubercle | a large process process of bone; typically serves as an anchorage for ligaments and tendons |
turberosity | a large process process of bone; typically serves as an anchorage for ligaments and tendons |
