Organ Systems, Body Cavities, and Quadrants

Respiratory System Maintains blood oxygen and carbon dioxide levels.
Nervous System Controls muscles and glands by electrical impulses; helps control homeostasis.
Muscular System Causes movement of bones, movement of food, and pumps blood.
Integumentary System Waterproof barrier that blocks the entrance of pathogens into the body and the loss of water from the body.
Cardiovascular System Transports nutrients, oxygen, and carbon dioxide throughout the body.
Digestive System Changes food into absorbable nutrients; expels waste.
Urinary System Regulates composition of blood by eliminating nitrogenous wastes, excess water, and minerals.
Endocrine System Uses hormones to control cell function; helps control homeostasis.
Skeletal System Provides framework for the body and guards body organs.
Reproductive System Produces gametes.
Immune System Returns fluids to the bloodstream and provides protection against pathogens that have entered the body.
Organ components of the Integumentary System Skin, hair, fingernails, sweat glands, oil glands.
Organ components of the Skeletal System Bones, Joints, cartilage.

Cranial cavity Formed by cranial bones and contains brain.
Vertebral cavity Formed by vertebral column, contains spinal cord and nerves.
Thoracic cavity Chest cavity, contains pleural cavity, pericardial cavity, and mediastinum.
Abdominopelvic cavity Subsided into abdominal and pelvic cavities.
Pleural cavity (Thoracic) Surrounds lungs. Outer to inner; parietal pleura, pleural cavity, visceral pleura.
Pericardial cavity (Thoracic) Surrounds heart. Outer to inner; parietal pericardium, pericardial cavity, visceral pericardium.
Mediastinum (Thoracic) Between lungs, from sternum to vertebral.
Abdominal cavity (Abdominopelvic) Contains everything intestines and above, and below lungs.
Pelvic cavity (Abdominopelvic) Below intestines, includes some large intestine.
Ventral cavity Both Thoracic and Abdominopelvic cavities.
Diaphram Between Thoracic and Abdominopelvic cavities.
Dorsal cavity Both Cranial and Vertebral cavities.
Lesser omentum (Abdominal) Between liver and stomach.
Greater omentum (Abdominal) Large intestine area.
Mesentery (Abdominal) Small intestine area.
Right upper Right Hypochondriac
Upper middle Epigastric
Left upper Left Hypochondriac
Right middle Right Lumbar
Middle middle Umbilical
