Anatomy Week 1-5

TermDefinition
Homeostasis The process by which the body maintains a stable internal environment despite changes in external conditions.
Cell Membrane The structure that surrounds the cell, providing protection and regulating what enters and exits the cell.
Mitochondria Organelles known as the powerhouse of the cell, responsible for producing energy through cellular respiration.
Osmosis The movement of water molecules through a selectively permeable membrane from an area of lower solute concentration to higher solute concentration.
Epithelial Tissue Tissue that forms the outer layer of the body's surfaces and lines the body's cavities.
Anatomical Position A standard position of the body used as a reference in describing the location of body parts.
Synovial Joints Joints that are freely movable, such as the knee or elbow, characterized by a synovial cavity.
Neurons Nerve cells that transmit signals throughout the body, essential for communication within the nervous system.
Hemoglobin A protein in red blood cells responsible for the transport of oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body.
Endocrine System A collection of glands that secrete hormones directly into the bloodstream to regulate various bodily functions.
