Atom | building blocks of nature. |
Molecule | combinations of atoms form larger chemical groupings. |
Macromolecule | combinations of atoms and molecules to form larger and more complex chemicals. |
7 levels of organization | chemical, organelle, cellular, tissue, organ, system, and organism. |
Organelle | a structure made of molecules organized in such a way that it can perform a specific function, organs of the cell. |
Cell | the smallest and most numerous structural units that possess and exhibit the basic characteristics of living matter. |
Tissue | a group of a great many similar cells that all developed together from the same part of the embryo, and all perform a certain function. |
4 major types of tissues | connective, epithelial, muscle, and nervous. |
Organ | a structure made up of several different kinds of tissues arranged so that, together, they can perform a special function. |
System | varying numbers and kinds of organs arranged so that, together, they can perform complex functions for the body. |
11 systems of the body | integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic/ immune, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive. |
Organism | living thing with organized structure, ex: human. |
