eustachian tube canal that connects the middle ear to the back of the nose and throat
glossitis inflammation of the tongue
incus a small anvil-shaped bone in the middle ear, transmitting vibrations between the malleus and stapes
Ishihara test color blindness test
Malleus a small bone in the middle ear which transmits vibrations of the eardrum to the incus
Myringotomy surgical opening made in the tympanic membrane and tubes placed in the ear to drain fluids
nasal septum the bone and cartilage in the nose that seperates the nasal cavity into the two nostrils
Ophthalmoscope a lighted instrument for inspecting the retina and other parts of the eye
Orbital cavity bony cavity in the skull that houses and protects the eyeball
ossicles three tiny bones in the middle ear that transmit sounds to the cochlea
otoscope a lighted instrument used to examine the ear
Papillae projections on the tongue that contain taste buds
pinna external part of the ear; also called the auricle
rhinitis inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose
rods a type of specialized light-sensitive cell in the retina of the eye that provides side vision and the ability to see objects in di light (night vision)
Snellen chart eye chart that can be used to measure visual acuity
Stapes small stirrup-shaped bone that transmits sound vibrations to the oval window of the ear
Stapedectomy surgical removal of all or part of the stapes of the middle ear, followed by replacement with a prosthesis
Vertigo a sensation of spinning dizziness, as though the room or surrounding environment is spinning in circles around the person
Vitreous humor jelly-like substance that fills the posterior chamber
