linear fracture occurring in line with the bone; vertically
oblique fracture occurring diagonally across the bone
greenstick fracture on outer arc of bone due to bending
compacted/impacted fracture occurring when broken ends are smashed into each other
comminuted fracture with multiple bone fragments due to high impact
spiral fracture due to twisting of the bone
segmented fracture with a single piece broken or separated from the rest of the bone
compression crush fracture due to vertical force such as a fall
epiphyseal disk the growth plate, the region of cartilage at the ends of long bones in children and adolescents
female pelvis is wider, shorter , and has a more broad and rounded opening
male pelvis is narrower, taller, and has a funnel or heart shaped opening
compact bone dense bone with a solid matrix; type of bone surrounding the medullary cavity
spongy bone porous bone filled with red bone marrow
