What are the four pairs of muscles that compress the abdomen? External oblique, internal oblique, transversus abdominis, and rectus abdominis
What are the two parts of the autonomic nervous system and where are they located? Sympathetic divsion is located in the thoracic and lumbar region. Parasympathetic division is located in the brain stem and spinal cord.
What is the response for the parasympathetic and sympathetic divisons? The sympathetic division stimulates a fight or flight response and the parasympathetic division stimulates the rest and digest response.
What gland is considered the "master gland" and why? The pituitary gland is considered the master gland because it controls the function of many other endocrine glands throughout the body.
What bone does the pituitary gland sit in and why is the name significant? The pituitary gland is located on the sphenoid bone. The significance to the name is that it comes from the Greek word spenoeides which means "wedge-shaped".
What is the role of the placenta in fetal blood circulation? The placenta separates fetal and maternal blood which allows each to flow separately. The placenta acts as a barrier between the fetus blood and martenal blood, never mixing.
What is the role of lymphatic system and how is lymph formed? The lymphatic system filters out foreign bodies and transports it back into the bloodstream. and lymph is formed when fluid from blood leaks from capillaries called interstitial fluid.
What is the primary organ of the respiratory system and what is their function? The lungs are the primary organ of the respiratory system. Its primary function is to provide gas exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide through inhalation and exhalation
How is the heart divided? The heart has a right and left side. Each side has a atrium and a ventricle.
What are the axial muscles and the appendicular muscles? The axial muscles are located in the trunk and head. The appendicular muscles are located in arms and legs.
