ADRENAL CORTEX (outer layer) CONTAINS 3 THINGS: MINERALOCORTOIDS, GLUCOCORTICOIDS,AND ANDROGENS
1) MINERALOCORTICOIDS is antibody production helps regulate mineral balance via kidney filtration. EX. ALDOSTERONE
2) GLUCOCORTICOIDS controls rate at which fat is converted to sugar keytones may build up in blood= ketosis. EX. CORTISOL
3) ANDROGENS controls secondary sex characteristics.
SECONDARY SEX CHARACTERISTICS IN (MALES) deeper voice change, increase in body hair, increase in muscle deposits.
SECONDARY SEX CHARACTERISTICS IN (FEMALES) breast, fat under skin, higher voice.
BEARDED LADY DUE TO TUMOR ON ADRENAL CORTEX
ADRENAL MEDULLA (inner layer) contains 2 things: adrenalin,noradrenalin,
ADRENALIN (epinephrin) prepares body for stress (fight or flight)
NORADRENALIN (norepinephrin) prepares body for stress (fight or flight)
OVARIES+TESTICLES SEX ORGANS DEVELOPE FROM A PIECE OF YOUR KIDNEY.
OVARIES FEMALE SEX ORGAN. CONTAINS ESTROGEN AND PROGESTERONE
ESTROGEN controls female sex characteristics, egg developement/producton
PROGESTERONE prevents ovulation, prepares uterous for the egg 1)causes the lining of the uterous to thicken(endometrium. 2) increases blood supply.
ENDOMETRIUM IS THE LINING OF THE UTEROUS
TESTICLES is the male sex organ.contains 2 things: testerone, sperm production
TESTOSTERONE controls male sex characteristics
testis sperm production
HERMAPHRODITE IS IF YOU HAVE BOTH SEX ORGANS.
CRYPTORCHIDISM IS UNDESCENDED TESTICLES.
REPRODUTIVE SYSTEM has female and male primary sex organs
PRIMARY FEMALE SEX ORGAN IS THE OVARY
SECONDARY FEMALE SEX ORGANS fallopian tubes, uterous, vagina, vestibular glands(lubricating fluid), clitoris
MALE PRIMARY SEX ORGAN IS THE TESTICLES
MALE SECONDARY SEX ORGANS epidymus, vas deferas, seminal vesicles, prostate gland, coupeas gland, penis.
an egg is viable for 24hrs
fertalization happens in upper 1/3 of the fallopian tube
blastocyst hollow ball of cells
3-5 days the egg can be fertilized by sperm
corpus luteum if not fertilized corpus luteum stops producing progesteron then the lining of the uterous breaks down + menstration occurs
