Cleft palate   occurs when the maxillary bones do not fuse during embryonic development, resulting in an opening in the roof of the mouth.

Osteoporosis   a disorder of the skeletal system associated with porous, fragile bones and a significant loss of bone mass.

Osteomyelitis   an inflammation of bone caused by pyogenic (pus producing) bacteria.  
🗑
Osteitis deformans   results from excessive and abnormal osteoclast activity followed by excess osteoblast activity.  
🗑
Rickets   disorder usually caused by vitamin D deficiency. Affects the bones and their growth plates, causing the skeleton to remain soft and become distorted. Called osteomalacia (in children)

Kyphosis (hunchback)   an exaggeration of the thoracic curve.

Lordosis (swayback)   an excessive lumbar curve.

Scoliosis   a lateral curvature of the vertebral column.

Arthritis   inflammation of the joints.

Osteoarthritis   degenerative joint disease, usually occurs in the elderly as a result of normal wear and tear and low level inflammation.

Rheumatoid arthritis   a crippling condition characterized by joint swelling in the hands, the feet, and elsewhere as a result of inflammation and overgrowth of the synovial membranes and other joint tissues.

Septic arthritis (infectious)   arises when bacteria in the blood or in a nearby local infection colonize a joint.

Gout   a kind of arthritis caused by a metabolic disturbance.

Backache   physical discomfort occurring anywhere on the spine or back.

Osteopenia   A mild to moderate reduction in bone mass below average levels.

Osteomalacia   bone tissue softens due to lack of calcium salt deposition.  
🗑
Osteosarcoma   Malignant tumor most common in a young person in a bone growing region, especially around the knee.

Chondrosarcoma   Malignant tumor that arises in cartilage.

Pott's disease   tuberculosis of the spine.  
🗑
Flatfoot   a condition in which the entire sole of the foot touches the floor when standing.  
🗑
Dislocation   a derangement of joint parts.  
🗑
Sprain   the wrenching of a joint with rupture or tearing of the ligaments.  
🗑
Arthroscopy   Examination of the interior of the knee and the surgical repair of it .  
🗑
Ligament   band of dense regular connective tissue.  
🗑
Tendon   cord of regular dense connective tissue that attaches a muscle to a bone.
